MISSION VIEJO – Three Saddleback Valley Unified elementary schools are splitting $10,000 in Microsoft software and $10,000 from the Saddleback Valley Educational Foundation for the schools’ technology funds.

SVEF was one of three education foundations selected by the Shops at Mission Viejo Microsoft Store to participate in a contest to earn the software. The organizations had to encourage supporters to vote online or in the store, with each vote counting for $20 in software.

All three hit the $10,000 mark. SVEF took the event a step further, holding an in-store contest where school communities could vote for their school to receive a portion of the software funds and matching funds from the foundation. The winners were Rancho Cañada, Foothill Ranch and Melinda Heights elementary schools.

Administrators from the schools were presented with oversize checks at last week’s board meeting. Foothill Ranch received $10,000, Rancho Cañada received $6,000 and Melinda Heights received $4,000.
