Housing Hunt: Fenway

Dear incoming grad students:

I’m sure many of you are starting to look for roommates and apartments for the fall, so I thought I’d offer up what I learned when I was in your shoes last year.

I came to Boston for a few days of whirlwind apartment hunting and managed to find a fantastic place in Fenway. Although the names of Boston’s various neighborhoods meant little to me at the time, I’ve learned how the city fits together and definitely recommend the Fenway area.

Home to the Red Sox (of course), the Citgo Sign, and Kenmore Square, Fenway is accessible from the Green Line and is an easy 15 minute commute to Emerson. The numerous grocery stores, restaurants, bars, banks, bookstores, etc. make it a really fun, convenient place to live. Both the Museum of Fine Art and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum (which I also highly recommend) are close by, as well as a movie theater and plenty of parks. Although the streets right around the ballpark can be loud and crowded during baseball season, the area has plenty of quieter residential streets and some great apartment complexes. So if you’re apartment hunting anytime soon, be sure check it out!

Good luck!
