SINGING IN THE RAIN

Class project for MOFILM Pepsi brief makes the cut

‘In The Rain’ is a short film which was made for Patrick Buchanan’s ‘Wordsmithing’ class last quarter, and now it’s on it’s way to the finals of MOFILM’s Pepsi London competition. Copywriter Andrew Siebert wrote & directed the short, using a trusty Canon 5D (which arrived in the mail 1 day before the shoot). Buchanan provided some key stylistic & editing input, as well as writing & recording the music for the film. The rest of the students pitched in their time during production, making the project a truly collaborative class effort. We’re not allowed to post the video yet due to the rules of the competition (since the winning films haven’t been announced yet), but if the team wins the grand prize, they’ll receive $10,000 and a trip to London! What Does It Take?

When I read the to my post about an encounter I had in a California church, I was surprised by how many people asked, “What does it take to learn a new language?” Inquirers like Angel, Luckna, and others wanted to know what really “works.” I’ve thought about what it takes to learn a new language, and in my experience, here’s what you need:

  1. Introduction. In your introduction you should note your own definition which will be the thesis statement of your definition essay. You may also include general definition which you can find in a dictionary. Do not make your introduction too broad, try to be precise.
  2. Body. In your definition essay body you are to provide arguments to support your thesis statement. In this part you express your opinion and ideas on some concept. Remember that each paragraph should introduce one argument or idea.
  3. Conclusion. Your definition essay conclusion should summarize the whole work. Of course, it will be very similar with the thesis statement.
  4. Bibliography. When you write a definition essay, as a rule, you do not need some numerous sources.

ROBOT LOVE- (MAYBE) COMING SOON TO A THEATER NEAR YOU

Roberto Rubio and Jose Hernandez are finalists in Tribeca pitch competition

A robot secretary sounds like the ultimate perk, right? It is, until things start to go horribly wrong… That’s the really short version of Jose Hernandez and Roberto Rubio’s short film ‘Robot Love’, an idea that they pitched in the Tribeca Films / American Express ‘My Movie Pitch’ competition. Their excellent narrative/animation hybrid pitch landed them amongst the top 10 finalists for the grand prize- having their idea made into a short film by an acclaimed Tribeca films director, and earn a trip to the 2012 Festival.
