They graduated from elementary school relatively unscathed, thanks to the healing powers of the cootie shot.

But it’s middle school where kids contend with overwhelming emotional, neurological, physical and cognitive changes — and national and local leaders say the middle child of K-12 education has been long overlooked in school reforms.

Since returning to session, the D.C. Council has been examining the District’s public middle schools, which tend to be underenrolled, inconsistent in their academic and after-school offerings, and complicit in a high dropout rate among ninth-graders.

The Utah Valley University Woodbury School of Business recently hosted a delegation of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) for training and business networking with educators and local business leaders.

The official visit serves as follow up to an April visit to China by UVU President Matthew S. Weve got a different show this week, as Jenny is away and we have a wonderful fill-in performance from EPLTs own Heather McGregor!

While we dont have a discussion this week, you do get to hear Jenny as she interviews Vanessa Lapointe of The Wishing Star. Vanessa taught for EPLT at an Early Childhood Education summer institute this past July. They discuss assessment and support in early childhood education.

Finally, EPLT has lots of stuff going on this month, and Heather and Dave give you all the information you could possibly need about the numerous MED cohort information sessions going on (as long as you come back to this blog post for the links, anyway).
