Spurred by Bordeaux’s record round and strong play from top-to-bottom, the Pacific golf team put themselves into dominating position heading into the final round of play on Wednesday afternoon as the Tigers lead the 12 team field with at -25 through two rounds, 15 strokes ahead of No. 36 Oregon State. Better late than never

I’ll admit it. I’m taking the easy way out in this week’s top-10 list as three athletes — maybe four — are in the above picture and were honoured at the Athletics Ontario awards banquet in Toronto over the weekend. I say maybe four because I haven’t been able to pin down where Kailee Sawyer (far left) goes to school. The Laurel Creek track member was the bantam-age winner in the girls distance division. Devon Rittinger (second from left) of Forest Heights and Supreme Athletics was honoured as the top performer in the youth sprint-hurdles class. Jaimie Phelan (third from left) of St. Mary’s and Laurel Creek was the midget-age winner in the girls distance category. A

Emerson Around the World: Global Alumni Networking

Growing Up Emerson

So I promise I’m not writing this blog to brag (ok, maybe a little bit) but I have to talk about one thing that has really impressed me while on my trip. It’s one thing to bump into Emerson alumni at an organization or at a meeting in the states, and find people doing amazing things while browsing the internet. But the alumni network abroad has been really impressive. I know some things international students always ask about are (what I might call are the “three r’s”) rankings, reputation, and results. Our alumni are a clear answer for all three questions.

To do a 13 city, 9 country, international trip and to be able to meet up with alumni in almost every city is pretty amazing in and of itself considering we are a small college. The alumn

Pacific Golf: Up And Down Day Puts Pacific In Fourth At The Saint Mary’s Invitational

Taking part in their final tournament before hosting the Pacific Invitational next week, the Pacific golf team played the first two rounds at the Saint Mary’s Invitational on Monday, October 25. After two rounds the Tigers sit in fourth place overall at +13.  The Tigers shot one-under in the afternoon session after going +12 in the morning.  The two day tournament, which is held at Bayonet and Blackhorse Golf Courses in Seaside, CA. and hosted by Saint Mary’s College, was led by Notre Dame at -6, 16 strokes ahead of the host Gaels who sit in second after the first day’s action.

For the Tigers, an up and down day on the course was led in round one by junior Danny Garcia who completed the first day at +5 for the first two rounds. The lefty posted a team-best +2, 74 in round one, tallying a pair of birdies on the Bayonet course through the first 12 holes of the morning before dropping back over par on the final six holes of the round. Changing courses to the Blackhorse course, Garcia struggled with inconsistent play as he posted seven pars in the round while carding four birdies and seven bogeys.

The move to a new course in the afternoon session was a welcome change for senior T.J. Bordeaux as he posted Pacific’s best round of the day in round two with a -4, 68.  On the new course, Bordeaux was on fire as he posted five birdies with just one bogey early in his round.  With his resurgence, Bordeaux finished the day +4 after rebounding from a rough opening round of 80 on the Bayonet course.

Following Bordeaux’s play, senior Patrick Kucich matched his fellow Tigers resurgence in the second round as he knocked of four strokes from his early round score by shooting an even-par, 72 at the Blackhorse course.  After a troubling start to his afternoon session that saw the senior post four bogeys in the first 10 holes, Kucich turned his day around with four birdies in the final seven holes of the day.

The Tigers will look to improve their overall standing and conquer the Bayonet course when round three commences on Tuesday, October 26 at 8:00 am. To follow the final round live online go to GolfStatResults.com

What does “school choice” mean?

Sabrina Stevens Shupe is an education advocate and former Denver teacher. This is cross-posted from her Failing Schools blog.

What does “school choice” mean?

In my head, school choice is about providing parents with options, so they can choose the school community that best serves their children’s needs and interests. It’s about families getting a fair, accurate assessment of the local schools (that includes in-depth information about what kinds of programs each school offers and how they approach the task of educating children, not just opaque school ranking information) and then choosing the best fit for their children. For tho
